No matter the goal, the starting point, or the method for traveling from start to finish… It begins with an idea.
Throughout my professional career, I’ve learned that most people constrain their ideas. They’re limited to the small Venn diagram intersection between what they believe will work and what they’ve experienced.
Which dramatically reduces the chance they’ll find a great option.
Maybe even a good option.
Growing up I was constantly told that I dreamed too big, wasn’t rooted in reality, and my worldview was… different.
When I started my first business, two weeks out of college, I was told it wouldn’t work.
We were profitable in month two.
When I sold that business to pursue a passion in martial arts, I was told that the market was too small and nobody would pay attention to what a tiny upstart in Vermont was doing.
We now have the #1 traditional martial arts podcast in the world and a global customer base that is so loyal, many of them literally volunteer their time to help the commercial endeavors of the company.
The same qualities that made me a social pariah in my youth make me a tremendous asset today. My consulting work spans different industries, states, and client personalities. The challenges and the solutions vary from one to the next.
But in each case, the beginning was an idea that came as a result of collaborative conversation.
